Plane camping in British Columbia, Canada. Landing on a remote river bar in the Coastal Mountain Range during this mild winter weather in my 1954 Piper PA-18 Super Cub. Solo camping, challenging short off strip flying as well as hiking up to a stunning Hotspring and cooking a few delicious simple bush meals over a fire in this beautiful PNW landscape.

The military and political tensions of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union gave way to an era of enormous technological development.

Traditional aircraft became inherently connected to the Space Race, and the increasing importance of warplanes that could quickly take off led to the creation of the first VTOLs, vehicles capable of hovering, taking off and landing vertically.

During the early 1950s, the Bell Aircraft Corporation produced the experimental X14, one of the first trainer VTOLs in the United States Air Force. A modest and strange-looking vehicle built from spare parts, its objective was to study the versatility and reliability of vertical take-off and landing aircraft that could transition to horizontal flight.

The X14 was eventually delivered to NASA to help astronauts train for landing maneuvers before the Apollo Lunar Module was developed, and even Neil Armstrong operated it in preparation for the groundbreaking mission that would take him to the Moon...

This was the third prototype of this advanced German aircraft that never saw combat. It was developed in the late stages of the WW2 when Germany desperately needed new weapons to change the course of war. The design of the Ho-229 was an attempt to produce a fast and highly maneuverable jet. In the decades after the war the aircraft became famous for its unusual shape and resemblance to the modern, B-2 stealth bomber, sparking questions about its alleged stealth capabilities. But was it really stealth? In this film we will answer this question, and show you how it was constructed eight decades ago.Sources:Shepelev, Andrei; Ottens, Huib, Horten Ho 229 Spirit of Thuringia: The Horten All-Wing Jet Fighter. December 1986. McDonnell Douglas launches the MD-11 with 52 firm orders from the world's biggest airlines. American, Delta, Singapore Airlines—everyone wanted one.
After just five years American Airlines does something almost unheard of in aviation—they retire their entire MD-11 fleet. Delta follows. Then Singapore Airlines. But here's what makes no sense: while passenger airlines were desperately trying to get rid of these planes, FedEx and UPS were buying them up as fast as they could. FedEx brought the entire American Airlines MD-11 fleet, followed by UPS, which spent 2 billion dollars on an aircraft that passenger airlines called a 'nightmare. And today—35 years after these jets first flew—both companies are still operating them. Not retiring them rather extending their service life. Even after a crash this year that grounded the entire fleet and forced emergency inspections, FedEx pushed their retirement date from 2028 to 2032. UPS? They haven't even set a retirement date at all. So why do UPS and FedEx still fly these 35-year-old, gas-guzzling MD-11s when modern, fuel-efficient alternatives exist?"

The F4U-4 Corsair was produced for longer than any other American piston-engine fighter. Its design started in 1939 and the last planes retired from military service in the late 1970s. It's last aerial victory was achieved in 1969, well into the jet age. In this film we show you F4U-4 version - the last one created by the Chance-Vought Company that designed this plane originally. This variant served both during the last campaigns of Second World War through to the Korean War.

Second leg of our little adventure - we flew from Bridport to Boobyalla - a 5000acre sheep and cattle property on the north east coast of Tasmania. Lovely views and even more lovely hosts that made us an awesome lunch.

Cameras didnt really work for the rest of the trip but least you get a snippet of flying around in the Tiger with dad.

Enjoy and thanks for watching :)

Footage of the famous flight of Howard Hughes's flying boat, the H4 Hercules! It flew for about a mile at an altitude of 70 feet over Long Beach Harbor. Hughes wanted to prove his airplane was no "Spruce Goose" ...that it really could fly. And indeed, he shocked the world when he pulled back on the yoke that day. The Hercules maintained itself as the airplane with the largest wingspan until the Stratolaunch was unveiled in 2019! But it still holds the record as the world's largest flying boat.

This video was made by taking a soundless newsreel and combining it with the audio from another newsreel.

As Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio) navigates a senate hearing and proving viability of his mammoth H-4 Hercules Flying Boat, he has difficulty maintaining his grip on reality and pushing away his paranoia.

About The Aviator (Theatrical Release - December 25th, 2004):
Martin Scorsese directs Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes, the billionaire, the filmmaker, the recluse and The Aviator. After inheriting his father's machine tool company, the young Howard Hughes discovers he can combine his passions--flying, moviemaking and women--by coming to Hollywood. In 1930, while building one of the world's largest aviation companies, Hughes produces Hell's Angels, a perfectionist's homage to World War I flyers. The man who eventually produces almost 30 films shocks society with The Outlaw, starring buxom Jane Russell, builds the world's largest airplane, sets the world speed record and invents the half-cup bra.

Well, it finally happened, the last flying Martin Mars leaving Sproat Lake for the last time! This WWII Era flying boat was making its second to last ever takeoff from its home base of 66 years; Sproat Lake, Port Alberni.

What is particularly interesting about this journey, other than it being the second last flight of a Martin Mars, is that the aircraft landed in Alameda, California, where it had been used as a transport aircraft for the U.S Navy back in the 1940s and 50s.

As of uploading this video, the Mars has now completed its final leg of the journey to the Pima Air and Space Museum in Arizona, when it landed on Pleasant Lake for its final flight, marking the end to a remarkable flying career spanning 80 years.

Bill Bennett, ASC shot this video of a beautifully restored 1941 PT-17 Stearman biplane, flown by 18 year-old Sammy Mason; owned by his parents, Rowena and Pete Mason.

We shot the video with a prototype Arri Alexa M digital cinema camera, and a Fujinon Alura 18-80mm zoom lens, fitted to a Pictorvision Eclipse gyro-stabilized helicopter mount. The A-Star helicopter was flown by Peter McKernan. Abby Sunderland was the First Camera Assistant, and David Arms was the Pictorvision Tech.

We shot the piece at Santa Paula Airport, over Lake Casitas, and along the shore of the Pacific Ocean northwest of Oxnard, CA.
