The One Thing That Gets You the Dunya AND the Ākhirah
Ibn Taymiyyah would sit in his place of prayer until the forenoon, making dhikr of Allah. When asked about it, he said: "This is my strength. If I did not do this, my body would grow weak."
In this reminder, we explore a beautiful benefit drawn from the stories of the prophets — Nuh and Hud both called their people to istighfar and tawbah, and both promised the same result: rain, wealth, children, and strength of body. Taqwa and iman, we learn, are not only the path to the akhirah — they are also among the very causes by which the good of this dunya is attained.
And while other means exist — medicine, exercise, and so on — none compare to the wellbeing built upon iman and guarding the limbs in obedience to Ar-Rahman.
As for the akhirah, there is only one cause: taqwa. "Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer — We will surely cause him to live a good life." (An-Nahl: 97)
