Merry-Go-Round of Life is probably one of the most famous Anime Soundtracks which has ever been composed and I spent a lot of time to think of the best way to create a satisfying piano arrangement.

I started by re-watching the movie again and analyzing as many scenes as possible to gather inspiration for my arrangement. I realized that the famous main melody has been used in 12 different occasions in the movie and each of them are arranged in a different atmosphere by the brilliant composer Joe Hisaishi.

Inspired by the 12 original soundtracks, I decided to create a variation arrangement, showcasing different moods of the music. The arrangement structure is mostly based on the official video “Merry-Go-Round of Life” on Joe Hisaishi YouTube channel. I only added a new variation in 3:25 and extended the finale in 4:31.

Since the title of the song is quite literally “Merry-Go-Round of Life”, I designed the flow of music to retell the life story of Howl.

0:13 A simple melody describing Howl's childhood and his humble beginnings.
0:57 Once he has reached Adulthood, he is being faced by the reality of society as a professional wizard. Symbolized by the complicated octaves in the right hand and multiple voicings.
2:06 Finally met Sophie and slowly develops a romance with her. The left hand is playing a different harmonization now, this time in a major key.
2:40 This playful segment represents the various adventures he is having with Sophie and the other characters. Interestingly, it also reminds me of the symphonic poem “The Sorcerer's Apprentice” from Paul Dukas.
3:23 Howl is finally opening his heart to Sophie and showed her the flower garden - his secret hideout from his childhood days. Represented by sorrowful piano notes in the high register.
4:24 Gathering his determination to do the right thing. The “introduction” melody from the very beginning is being cited here again to build up the music.
4:31 Finale and conclusion of his story with a virtuoso octave passage at the end.

The final chord (E6/9sus2) in the original song is especially interesting, because it is an open chord without a definite conclusion in the music. I have a feeling, Joe Hisaishi created this chord on purpose to let the viewers know, that Howl's story will still continue - similar to a Merry-Go-Round which continues to spin around.

It is hard to describe which composer has influenced me the most for this arrangement. I’d say I was inspired by the rich texture of Liszt music, the sensitivity of Chopin music and the romantic harmonization in Rachmaninoff music. But most importantly, I had the desire to tell a story with the music alone. Perhaps this is what motivates me to continue creating Arrangements in the "Animenz style"...

In the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, a chance encounter with a wounded bull elk leads wildlife filmmaker Jake Davis on an unexpected journey. Suspecting the elk had narrowly escaped a wolf attack, Jake returns the next day to find ravens circling overhead. He sets up an array of high-end remote cinema cameras—the same gear he uses for BBC and National Geographic productions—and leaves them rolling for over a month.
What follows is a rare and intimate look at wolves and their role in this complex ecosystem. The camera traps capture weeks of activity at the elk carcass, from golden eagles and red foxes to coyotes, ravens, magpies, and finally, the return of the wolves themselves.
Blending cinematic wildlife footage with a behind-the-scenes, personal narrative, the film documents not only rare predator and scavenger behavior, but also the broader ecological impact of wolves—keystone species whose presence sustains balance and biodiversity across the landscape.

All filming was conducted under a Special Use Permit with the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Islamic Reminder | English Translation of a Lecture by Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen

What does it truly mean to possess unshakeable certainty (yaqeen) and place complete reliance (tawakkul) upon Allah during times of crisis and hardship? In this explanation, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-'Uthaymeen clarifies how genuine reliance upon Allah brings tranquility to the heart and strengthens a believer against fear and anxiety.

In this lecture, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-'Uthaymeen explains the fundamental relationship between certainty (yaqeen) and reliance (tawakkul) from Imam an-Nawawi’s Riyad as-Salihin. The Shaykh contrasts the unwavering conviction of the believers during severe trials—such as the Battle of the Trench and the aftermath of Uhud—with the doubt of the hypocrites, illustrating how reliance upon Allah serves as an invincible shield against the fear of creation. Through an explanation of Quranic verses and authentic prophetic narrations, including the Hadith of the birds and the recommended supplication (dua) before sleeping, he demonstrates that true reliance requires striving through lawful means (asbab) while maintaining total trust in Allah's decree. Even if your screen is not 4k, I recommend still setting the video to 4k. This will reduce artifacts.

This is the exact same edit as my 1080p video.
However, the source file is a 4k file, encoded in h265 (so, a bit worse than h264)

The 4k conversion is not my work,
Someone separated the movie into separate images, that made a file of over 2TB of data.
Then each and every pictures were converted to 4k using Waifu2x algorithm.
Which still is one of the best algorithm to scale up anime pictures to date.
The result was a 21GB file, so, smaller than the original 26.3GB movie on the blueray, but it still has a much higher resolution.

Waifu2x also removed some noise in the process. Amazing algorithm really. It's just really slow and resource intensive. Took over 600h to convert 2TB of data.

Keep in mind it does not convert videos, only images. Also the program lacks a file from Nvidia for legal reasons, but should work without. Just that you can't use a GPU to make processing faster.
